Jan Steen was a Dutch painter from the seventeenth century. While he was not extremely popular in his own time, his comedic and relatable storytelling abilities have left a lasting impact on people today. Steen also was a master with miniscule details, which not only make his works more accurate portrayals but also much more extraordinary. In the work The Girl Eating Oysters Steen displays his eye for detail to aid in the deciphering of the storyline.
